GD Tips & Techniques 2

GD Questioning Technique

The members of the GD contribute in various ways. Broadly speaking there are three ways to look at an issue.

1)      Facts : What, Where, When, Whom, Who

2)      Reasons & examples: Why, How, To what extent, Figures and Indications

3)      Solutions, suppositions, Repercussions & Conclusions:  Should’s and should not’s , If ‘s and If not’s, Views, Effects, Counterviews, Alternatives, Measures

GD Vocabulary- Speaker 2

Agree

Disagree

I totally agree with what speaker 1 has just said.

I strongly support the idea that speaker 1 has proposed

I’m afraid I don’t quite agree with what is being said.

I wish to strongly oppose what speaker 1 has said.

I’d like to challenge the idea of what has been said.

Introduce with a problem:

Serious Problems

Let us look at the core issue

The crux of the matter is

The topic.... is a burning issue

Serious action needed

Blaming/Not blaming Someone/Something

Let us not drag our feet

We should not drag the issue

We cannot afford to hesitate

The govt. has to be blamed

We cannot pass the buck

No point in pointing fingers

Instead of blaming we should

Fight Strongly

Praising Someone/ Something

We should stand firm against

We have to stick to our guns

The only way to root out

There is an urgent need to

One must appreciate

We must be thankful to

We should congratulate our

Sensitive Problems

The problem is quite sensitive. In fact there are many dimensions to it.

The problem needs gentle handling

There are two ways to look at the problem

Cautious Action Needed

Compromise

Let us think twice before acting

Let us look at the pros and cons

Perhaps we should discuss

We need to iron out our problems

We need to bridge differences

We should hammer out the differences

Can’t be weak

Plain words won’t help

We need action

Let us act rather than talk

Communicating with your peers in GD.

Interrupt

Don’t interrupt

Excuse me if you allow me to interrupt

Please let me interrupt

Please allow me to finish. Im not over yet

If you may permit me to finish

Some people are not speaking

Speak up please

Lets allow others to contribute too

May be the others should speak too

We haven’t heard from some of the members yet.

Has anyone else got anything to contribute?

Distractions

Getting stuck up

We are deviating from the main Issue

We’re losing sight of the main point

Let us not side track (stray from) the main issue.

Im afraid we are not moving on.

I suppose we have been talking only about.... why don’t we

Conclude

At the end of the day (when all’s said and done)

Im afraid we’ve run out of time.

I suppose one of us should summarise

I think we need to sum up.

Since people derive pleasure from...

Smoking it’s not fair... to ban

A ban would certainly stop people from getting addicted.
